Creating a Turnitin Assignment

There are two options for creating a Turnitin Assignment in Canvas. The option you choose is determined by how you want to use Turnitin. Please note the file types accepted by Turnitin when creating any Turnitin assignment.

If you only want to check for plagiarism, use the Plagiarism Review option in a Canvas assignment. You will use the Canvas SpeedGrader to provide feedback to the students and grade the assignments. If you created and attached a Canvas rubric to the assignment, it may be used to grade the assignment in Canvas. The grade entered in the Canvas SpeedGrader will populate in the Canvas Grade center. For complete instructions for using the Plagiarism Review function, please see the Turnitin Plagiarism Review instructions.

If you want to check for plagiarism, use the Turnitin Feedback Studio, GradeMark, PeerMark, and/or Turnitin rubrics, create a Canvas assignment and select “External Tool” for the submission type. You may use either the Canvas Speedgrader or the Feedback Studio to provide feedback and grade student submissions. With either grading method, the grades will populate in the Canvas Grade center. For complete instructions for using the External Tool feature, please see the Turnitin External Tool instructions.
